Meet Jeff, the Radio Geek
Hey, hey,
My name is Jeff, and I am the host of your journey through the amazing world of radio and radio shows. Join me as I passionately discuss the evolution of this communication and entertainment medium and guide you through different radio show experiences.
While it is true that I have always wanted to be a radio novella scriptwriter, I will try to be brief and straightforward when it comes to my own introduction. Read below and get to know more about me!
Who Is Jeff? The Early Years
I was born in Orlando, FL in the early 1980s. However, when I was only four years old, my parents and I moved to Manchester, UK. Thus, I was lucky enough to be saved from the TV obsession that ruled over American households at the time.
I spent most of my early years playing soccer on the streets of Manchester. When I’d get home late and tired, I’d go to bed and turn on the radio. This is how I discovered the immense treasure of British radio programs. I must say the BBC had and still have amazing shows. I used to listen to them in absolute awe until I fell asleep well into the wee hours.
I would imagine how I was a host, a reporter, and even a radio actor. Most of all, I loved radio dramas. I would listen avidly and come up with my own plot twists, imagine new characters, and play different versions of the script in my head.
Back to the US, and How That Transformed My Passion for Radio
When I was 14, my happy days in Manchester were suddenly over. My parents told me we were going back to Orlando, so I packed my radio and got on the plane only to discover that this unexpected move would bring me closer to my passion.
Soon after we got back to the US, I got into high school. On my very first day, I discovered that my high school had the most amazing student-run radio in the entire state of Florida. Oh, the joy of it! Needless to say, I signed up at once.
As I was new to the school and only in my first year, initially the crew would not let me do major stuff. I mostly helped out here and there. However, the team quickly sensed how big my enthusiasm was and promoted me. Eventually, I became a host and ran my own show.
Later Years
Later on, I joined college, where I served as president of the university’s radio station for two years. I graduated with a degree in communications and since then, I have worked in a variety of media outlets to promote radio culture and author radio shows for various audiences. This blog is part of my attempt to engage readers with the history of radio, its evolution, and the stories behind the most popular radio shows in history. I invite you to stay tuned and explore!
